Castle

History

Built in the 16th century on the foundations of a former castle dating back to 1374, the castle towers over the vast landscape of the Ostalb. After an eventful history with a wide variety of uses and various owners, including the Fuggers and the House of Thurn und Taxis, the castle has been extensively restored over the last two years. It is now a refuge with the inimitable charm of historic buildings and the luxury of contemporary comfort.

Castle hall

The centrepiece and meeting point of the former hunting lodge is the glass-roofed Renaissance courtyard with fireplace, large table and cosy seating.

The galleries running around the three floors of the castle give the room a spacious and open feel and provide a stylish setting for a variety of uses – festive dinners, family brunches, receptions, meetings, concerts or larger gatherings in front of the fireplace in a breathtaking atmosphere and ambience. Adjacent to the castle hall is the billiard room, the wine cellar and the open castle kitchen.

Castle kitchen

The castle kitchen adjoins the covered inner courtyard and is ideal for insights and views, anticipation, cooking together, a themed cookery course or to look over the professional’s shoulder.

With oak wood from our own forests used in the furnishings, the kitchen looks like a grown element of the historic castle complex and its surroundings.

Princely room I and II

After more than a year of restoration, the historic 18th century frescoes in the two prince’s rooms shine in the splendour of their time. The warm colours of the frescoes in the two royal chambers provided the colour concept for the design of the rooms in the palace.

A large table for 20 people can be set up in the larger conference room, but any other type of seating is also easily possible. This is ideal for business events but also for a festive dinner. A far-reaching view over forests and meadows is included and is irreplaceable for an inspiring and creative atmosphere.

The so-called living room provides a suitable, very private setting for discussions in a close circle or is a relaxed place for (thinking) breaks with its cosy sofas and fireplace.

Guest rooms in the main building

In the nine to eleven double rooms in the main building, historical and modern elements are skilfully combined, each room is individually designed and offers its own charm.

Old oak wood from the castle forest sets accents in the furnishings, you move on historic floors, the harmonious colour concept of the rooms creates references to the wall frescoes in the prince’s room and the far-reaching view over nature is simply good. The rooms offer a variety of views of the most fascinating corners of the surrounding forest.

Guest rooms in the Hunter’s lodge

The charming outbuilding borders directly on the lake and, with its seven newly renovated and lovingly designed guest rooms as well as a cosy hunting parlour and small kitchen, is a place with a cosy atmosphere and wonderful views of nature.

Gaudeamuslodge

Large glass fronts provide a view of meadows, neighbouring woods and the terrace. The Gaudeamushütte is a separate building from the castle at the foot of the hill.

The indoor fireplace is a meeting place that connects the team or cross-generational family members – to warm up by the fire after an autumn or winter walk, exchange ideas and enjoy being together.

The Gaudeamuslodge in combination with the castle hall are ideal for a change of location between a conference and evening programme. Here you can celebrate in a rustic atmosphere or stimulate creativity at a business event.
